BLACK LIVES MATTER. WE’VE SAID IT BEFORE. NOW SEE OUR ACTIONS.
OUR TEAM IS AT ITS BEST WHEN WE REFLECT THE DIVERSITY OF OUR COMMUNITY
We’re changing our talent pipeline, including our recruitment practices. We’ve examined the demographics of AKA NYC against the NY Metro Area – and we’re showing you the numbers. While our executive team is diverse, we have work to do across all levels of the business. We always strive to hire the best and will continue to do so. However it’s on us to actively reach and engage a wider community of people who may not have had access to AKA NYC previously. We’ll report the initiatives we implement and our progress.
THE ARTS ARE STRONGER WHEN WE SUPPORT AND AMPLIFY BLACK VOICES AND TALENT
AKA is donating 500 hours of creative, strategic and marketing work to emerging, independent Black producers to help build the vital tools needed to bring their vision to life. We hope this small contribution will open doors for new, diverse and necessary storytellers on Broadway stages and in arts and performance spaces across the country. OUR COMMUNITIES ARE BETTER SERVED WHEN WE DIVERSIFY AUDIENCES
We are leading a high-level audience research study to better understand the existing barriers preventing more diversity within audiences. We recognize the Arts have overwhelmingly deprioritized inviting and welcoming BIPOC and that efforts to engage have, too often, only been at the individual project level. That’s why we’re committed to identifying, calling out and dismantling any and all barriers – and amplifying those already doing the work. We’ll share those results publicly.
THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING. WE WILL CONTINUE TO SHARE OUR PROGRESS AND NEW INITIATIVES WITH REGULARITY AND HONESTY.
